Which major jewelry stores will set a gemstone I already own in a necklace?
My husband brought a tear shaped gemstone back from Afghanistan, but it's not in a setting. I wanted to get it set in a necklace, but didn't know where to go.
In situations like this I would actually go to a small independent jewellers in your area - one that's been around for a long time.
I have an antique diamond ring that the band has snapped, major jewellers weren't helpful whereas my local independent gave me a ton of advice on what they could do to fix it, how to make the stones more secure etc.
For better more friendly service it could be the way to go. Just check that the area the gemstone will be kept is insured, just incase the worst happens.
