I'm allergic to 14k gold. Should I wear white-gold earrings or stainless steel earrings?
I got my ears pierced with 14k gold, but I got a skin reaction. Blotches of itchy red skin appeared on my face, arms, and legs. Due to the persuasion of my friend, she has allergies ONLY to gold, not silver, I got my ears pierced with 14k white gold.
I'm nervous that I'll get another allergic reaction. Should I keep my studs in, close my holes, or try to switch earrings to silver or stainless steel?
Keep the studs in and see what happens. If you get another allergic reaction to the white gold then I would suggest switching to surgical steel. It's virtually impossible to have an allergic reaction to surgical steel. It looks like silver, so if you prefer gold jewelry then you're out of luck (but since white gold doesn't look all that "gold" anyway, I doubt you'll mind the silver color). Just keep an eye on it and see what happens. If you have no reaction then you're good to go. If you do, then switch them out for surgical steel and soon the allergic reaction will disappear.
